George Washington died in his bedroom at Mt. Vernon on 14 December 1799. Martha died in 1802. Both were buried in the existing family vault. In 1831, in accordance with George Washington's wishes, a new brick tomb was completed and the Washington's remains were relocated. Back to the Mt. Vernon Homepage. Photograph by Ramon A. Vicioso
