Geography:

The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispañola, which it shares with Haiti.  Hispañola is one of the greater Antilles islands, with it's south coast on the Caribbean Sea and it's north coast on the Atlantic Ocean.
Much of the island of Hispañola is mountainous.  Duarte Peak, in the Dominican Republic, is 3175 meters (10, 417 feet) high, making it the highest point in the West Indies.
